Jesse Learns about the Corps

"Professionally, I was interested in developing the skills necessary to implement organizational and operational change," Jesse explains. "I learned about the Corps while researching consulting career opportunities on Monster. The more I learned about the program, the more I understood how the experience could benefit my career in both the short and long term."
..

Jesse Applies to the Corps

Jesse found the Corps interview process to be excellent preparation for his consulting project. "I was very impressed with the materials and training that the Corps provided me. The materials also helped me to better understand the investment of time that would be required. Luckily, I had just taken evening accounting classes at a local university, so I was used to balancing my professional development with the day-to-day demands of my job."

The Friends of Faith: A Breast Cancer

Foundation for Low Income Women.

Jesse's Client

While Jesse was completing his training, John Cummings, the Executive Director of The Friends of Faith, was looking for strategic assistance. "Our organization is a breast cancer support foundation for low income women. We were going through a time of transition in regards to our leadership and focus. I needed help developing a framework for moving our organization forward."
.

Equipped with his training, the Corps arranged an introductory meeting between Jesse and Mr. Cummings. "I was very comfortable leading this meeting, listening to John's issues, and proposing an action plan. This meeting set the tone for an exciting and productive engagement."

Jesse's Success

For the next three months, Jesse and Mr. Cummings developed a 'mini' strategic plan for the foundation. From this plan they identified a need to better engage the foundation's donors and board members. During the following weeks, the two implemented new processes that would help the foundation to achieve record-breaking fundraising and re-energize its leadership team.

Mr. Cummings was very satisfied with this result: "I originally reached out to USA Leadership Corps - not quite knowing what to expect. My first meeting with Jesse set the tone for one of the best overall investments I've ever made in the nonprofit world."

As for Jesse, when he speaks with peers about the Corps he explains, "My project was a once in a lifetime experience. I enjoyed every step of my journey, from the rigorous-but-informative interview process, to the perfect client placement, to the wonderfully satisfying outcome... The experience has helped me to become a more strategic leader. It has also prepared me to begin a top MBA program."

Update - Fall 2009: Jesse is now an MBA Candidate at Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth - Class of 2011. Congratulations and good luck, Jesse!
